Reusing 'History' in an EPDM Text control

Thursday August 28, 2014 at 11:46am
We often get asked by Customers if there is any way to reuse the text values entered on one DataCard within another file's DataCard. This post will look at how you can use the the special 'History' list to recall and reselect values previous typed into a Combobox Dropdown control.

We often get asked by Customers if there is any way to reuse the text values entered on one DataCard within another file's DataCard. The typical response to this would be to use a ComboBox Dropdown linked to an SQL based list that stores all the previous values typed into the control.

NB. A Combobox Dropdown differs from a Combobox Droplist as the Dropdown can have free text values typed into it instead of being limited to selecting from the list.

If you simply want to re-use your favourites / recent items then a simpler solution to this may be to use a 'Combobox Dropdown' with the 'History' list. Using this special value, the Combobox remembers the history of previous values of the field and displays the last 8 in a list that the user can select from.

For example, if this field has been assigned to different values and a data card was saved each time ('Save' button), then the last 8 values are saved in the dropdown list.

One thing to bear in mind however is that if you edit the text and leave it blank then you will get a blank row in the List next time you select it.
